Ralph Nader formed his first task force of crusading students, comprised of seven law student volunteers. The group, later known as Nader’s Raiders, began looking into the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), a sleepy bureaucracy entrusted with protecting consumers from shoddy products, fraudulent business practices and deceptive advertising.

The US Federal Trade Commission voted to sue Intel Corp. over its business practices, saying it engaged in anti-competitive behavior by abusing its dominant market position. Intel controlled over 80% of the CPU market and will face an administrative law judge in September.

The US Federal Trade Comission and seven states, including California, announced a settlement of up to $40 million against Vyera Pharmaceuticals for raising the price of Daraprim, a potentially life-saving medication, from $17.50 to $750 per tablet, after obtaining exclusive rights to the drug in 2015. Company founder and former CEO Martin Shkreli still faced a trial.
