2011 May 10
The Gulf Co-operation Council (Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE) said it welcomed Jordan’s request to join the 6-member group. Jordan had first applied for membership in the mid-1980s. The GCC said it would encourage Morocco to also join.

In Saudi Arabia a summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) opened. Kuwait's Emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber al-Sabah, called for an end to media campaigns in the region which threatened the unity of the Gulf, during his speech at the GCC. Qatar's Sheikh Tamim sent Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi, minister of state for foreign affairs, to represent the country.

In Saudi Arabia a summit of Arab Gulf nations opened in Riyadh without Qatar’s ruler in attendance, despite signs of a thaw in a diplomatic crisis that has gripped the regions US allies. Qatar's PM Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani attended the annual Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
