 Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan convened in Istanbul an emergency summit of the world's main pan-Islamic body, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Islamic leaders urged the world to recognize occupied East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, as Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas warned the United States no longer had any role to play in the peace process.

 A Saudi-hosted Islamic summit threw its support behind Palestinians ahead of a US-led peace plan suspected to be skewed in favor of Israel, as Muslim states rallied around Saudi Arabia over tensions with Iran. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting, was the third and final Iran-focused summit in the holy city of Mecca this week. Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was notably absent from the summit of the 57-member OIC. The Mecca summit refused all illegal Israeli measures aimed at changing facts in occupied Palestinian territories including Jerusalem, and undermining the two-state solution.

 Gambia filed a case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) accusing Myanmar of committing genocide against its Rohingya Muslim minority, drawing praise from human rights groups and Rohingya activists. The Gambia filed the lawsuit on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, a coalition of 57 countries with significant Muslim populations.
