Togo's President Faure Gnassingbe, chairman of West Africa's regional bloc ECOWAS, slapped sanctions on 19 lawmakers and associates of the president in Guinea-Bissau, including his son, over the continued failure to end a political impasse. The ECOWAS bloc hit Guinea-Bissau President Jose Mario Vaz's political and business allies with sanctions including travel bans and asset freezes.
