Some 10-30 thousand protesters began gathering in Washington DC for the meeting of the WTO.

They planned to target the World Bank and the IMF. The World Bank’s 181 members accessed some $30 billion annually in loans through 5 institutions: The Int’l. Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the Int’l. Development Assoc. (IDA), the Int’l. Finance Corp. (IFC), the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) and the Int’l. Center for settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
