In Canada the Battle of the Thames, also known as the Battle of Moraviantown, was decisive in the War of 1812. Some 600 British regulars and 1,000 Indian allies under British Major General Henry Procter and Shawnee leader Tecumseh were greatly outnumbered and quickly defeated by US forces under the command of Maj. Gen. William Henry Harrison. Tecumseh (45) was killed in this battle. US Col. Richard Mentor Johnson led troops in the Battle of the Thames and was said to have killed Tecumseh, a claim that he later used to his political advantage.
